A kaleidoscope of colors illuminates the French Valley of Torres del Paine National Park, Chile. I spent nearly a month in this valley in January of 2015, hoping to climb one of the many impressive granite walls seen in this photo, but terrible weather and other difficulties thwarted our plans. We lived in a small cave amongst the jumbled boulders in this alpine meadow, and could count on one hand the number of days we could actually see the peaks we’d come to climb. On one of our last evenings here, as we hung out near basecamp with our bags already packed to leave, the skies split open and we were treated to this unbelievable sunset as a parting gift.
