An Andean Condor leaps into action off of the summit of Aguja Guillaumet, a sub-peak of the Fitz Roy group in Argentine Patagonia. I took this photo after climbing a route on the peak, and as we neared the summit a group of condors began to fly all around us. Suddenly one landed on the summit and sat there for a few minutes while we gazed on in wonder. I moved closer to get a better shot and it shot out into the air, spreading its magnificent wings and soaring out of sight. The Andean Condor is the largest bird in the world with a maximum wingspan of more than 10ft. Some have been known to live longer than 70 years.
